Dear Colleagues,
The Rare Disease Social Research Centre (RDSRC) at the Institute for
Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences invites both
scholars and non-academic audiences who are interested in mental health to
join the new seminar series "Critical Mental Health" starting in September
2022. The seminars will feature lectures by leading scholars in critical
mental health studies from the UK, Japan and New Zealand. In the last
decades, mental health has become increasingly present in both global and
local public discourses; the COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated
discussions about the mental health crisis.
These seminars aim to introduce this understudied perspective to the Polish
academic community and to foster interdisciplinary dialogue between
sociology, anthropology, and medicine. The scope of the topics covered
during the seminars include the Marxist critique of psychiatry and
psychology, global dissemination of the depression category and its
consequences, the significance of cross-cultural and comparative
perspectives on mental health, and the implications of war experience for
societal mental health.
All seminars will be held online with exception of the first (22.09.2022),
which will be in hybrid mode - both at the Staszica Palace, Nowy Swiat 72,
Warsaw (Rm 268) and online.
The seminar program is available in the attachment.

*Vygotsky's Psychology of Freedom *
This talk explores Vygotsky's understanding of the complex interaction
between affect and rationality in human consciousness and its contribution
to self-determination. We will examine some philosophical roots of
Vygotsky's ideas as well as their relevance to debates in contemporary
psychology.
Kyrill Potapov is a PhD candidate in human-computer interaction and
philosophy of education at the UCL Interaction Centre, UK. His work
investigates how young people's social practices affect the interpretation
of personal data.
Dear colleagues,
we are excited to announce our new publication project that addresses the
‘double edged sword’ of psychosocial praxis: navigating in between
adaptation and social change. We encourage practitioners and researchers to
share their transformative approaches to the fields of psychology,
education, social work and related fields. At the same time we aim to
revitalize the discussion of critical psychology and cultural-historical
theory. This is an ongoing effort to trace back the shared roots and re
connect the dots by inviting for a dialogue of contemporary approaches
situated in both traditions.
The Editors' Group has evolved from parts organizing group of Ferienuni
Kritische Psychologie 2021 that included two international threads aiming
to foster the discussion of German-Skandinavian Critical Psychology with
related international currents.

You are warmly invited to share this call in your mailing lists.
If you can identify with the project’s aim, we are looking forward for your
